Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine whether high school students' personal hygiene and cleanliness habits which was acquired in primary school differ according to gender, settlement and type of school or not and to discuss the results based on the dimension of science literacy of science curricula. The sample of the research consists of (113 female and 46 male students) 159 students in total who study in Anatolian High School and Vocational Medical High school in Bartin city center. Data were obtained by a total of 29 questions including four demographic information, an open-ended and 24 Likert-type questions. In the data analysis, statistical techniques such as mean, standard deviation, one-tailed variance analysis were used. Results show that high school students where the study has been conducted have insufficient personal hygiene behaviors and no statistically difference was seen amongst students' personal hygiene behaviors in terms of gender, school type and settlement and they haven't managed to keep their Science Literacy acquisitions about personal hygiene.
