He has long been one of the country's foremost Shakespearean actors, delighting audiences with his subtle and enthralling portrayals of some of the Bard's most famous characters.
From his early stage work Mark Rylance has gone on to win plaudits for his performances in film and television, such as Wolf Hall and Bridge of Spies.
So much so that he now stands on the brink of an extraordinary achievement - winning all four of the industry's greatest acting prizes; a Bafta film award, an Oscar, a Laurence Olivier award and a Bafta TV award, in the same year.

And if he completes the set he will become the first actor to hold all four in the same year.
In February Rylance won a Bafta Film award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as a Soviet agent in Stephen Spielberg's Bridge of Spies.
The same month he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for the same role .
