A cancer genomics researcher, whose reported findings appeared in some of the world's most prestigious journals and prompted the initiation of several clinical trials, has been found guilty of research misconduct by the US Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Research Integrity (ORI).
The researcher, Anil Potti, was an associate professor of medicine at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, and was a rising star in the field of genomics and precision medicine when he coauthored a number of papers from 2006 to 2009, which reported that gene expression signatures could be used to predict a cancer's response to chemotherapy and its risk of relapse.
