Introduction: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease characterized by fibrosis of skin and visceral organs. The etiology remains unknown, but certain environmental factors such as silica and organic solvents, as well as a genetic predisposition or even an exaggerated immune response, have been suspected to play a role. Epidemiological data have shown that scleroderma patients have a higher risk to develop cancer, and scleroderma skin changes can also be a rare manifestation of an underlying malignancy.
