ON December 29, 2007, William James Cyril Donnelly, bvms , msc , dvm , mrcvs , of 14 Deerpark Road, Castleknock, Dublin, Ireland. Dr Donnelly qualified from Glasgow in 1954.
Pat Hartigan writes: Bill Donnelly was a leading figure in veterinary pathology in the Republic of Ireland, having plied his considerable talents at the Veterinary Research Laboratory for over two decades before he transferred to the Department of Veterinary Pathology at University College Dublin. In conversation, Bill was apt to quote Hughlings Jackson's aphorism that 'the study of things caused must precede the study of the cause of things'; this was not simply a recitation of a convenient mantra, it was an article of faith that informed his work at necropsy and at the microscope.
