Abstract

This paper contains some contributions and limits of the communicative competence (CC) in the teaching of foreign languages. Given the heterogeneity of the culture of a country, and the importance of studying not only the culture of various social groups but also different cultures, a brief and critical reflection on the contributions of the intercultural communicative competence (ICC) was performed in the light of authors such as Byram (1997) and Corbett (2003), among others; finally, a new vision of the speaker, teacher and intercultural communication arose. Considering that the teaching and learning of heterogeneous cultural content, the critical analysis of the dominant culture, and the activation of the students discovery skills and cultural interpretation would be the best way to promote the students ICC, and his autonomy, avoiding the creation of cultural stereotypes.
