It's a bit surprising that it's taken this long for Adegoke Steve Colson to record his first solo piano album. What's less surprising for this longtime member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians is that he marked the occasion by paying tribute to three icons of black history. After all, Colson believes that much of black music is protest music, and this project fits right in with the AACM's slogan "Great Black Music.'v
