Abstract

La Sismología proporciona los instrumentos más poderosos para el estudio del interior de la Tierra. De las llegadas de las ondas in tornas, obtenemos un modelo para la distribución de velocidades de las ondus Py S. Si añadimos los datos obtenidos de las oscilaciones li- bres y de la dispersión de las ondas superficiales, se consigue final mente una descripción bastante completa de las propiedades elásticas de la Tierra y de sus variaciones radiales y laterales. Los modelos obtenidos representan no obstante, una idealización de la estructura del interior terrestre, pues en ellos se supone válida la teoría de la elasticidad perfecta.
