BOSTON - The Jewish community is still discussing Gov. Charlie Baker's decision to sign into law an anti-discrimination bill that protects transgender individuals' rights in public spaces.
The bill was sent to Baker's desk in July after the House voted 117-36. The Senate passed the bill on a voice vote.
The bill ensures that transgender individuals cannot be discriminated against in areas of public accommodations like restaurants and public transportation. The bill also ensures that transgender residents can use public bathrooms that match their gender identity and not their sex.
While some in the Jewish community celebrated the decision, others were leery about what the consequences would be.
