Abstract

Persons who established the new Turkish state and involved in the institutionalization of the Turkish Republic were the ones who were trained in the late period Ottoman educational institutions. Many of them graduated from the 'Mekteb-i Mülkiye'. High education abroad especially in France, provided some advantages to these persons such as Ali Muzaffer Bey when they returned to the country. In this article, first, the information about the life, education and career of Ali Muzaffer, the professor of modern history, will be given, and then his works will be discussed. This study is based on the information obtained from the archival documents related to the Ottoman and Republican periods; the Official Records of the Turkish Grand National Assembly; the newspaper reports of the period and the research works about the history of education and the Parliament. This article sets out the results of a detailed research about Ali Muzaffer Göker who had been educated during the last period of the Ottoman Empire and took part by the Ankara government struggling for freedom during the War of Turkish Independence and with the establishment of the Turkish Republic, served as professor and administrator in the university; as deputy in the Turkish Grand National Assembly and as an ambassador in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are set out.
