AQUINAS, Thomas. De unione Verbi incarnati. Translation, Introduction, and Notes by Roger Nutt. Dallas Medieval Texts and Translations, vol. 21. Leuven: Peeters, 2015. xi + 157 pp. Paper, $58.00-This book includes Roger Nutt's translation of Thomas Aquinas's disputed question De unione Verbi incamati, along with his own introduction and the Latin text that was established by Walter Senner, Barbara Bartocci, and Klaus Obenauer. The clarity and accuracy of the translation is commendable. This volume is not meant to replace the introduction and critical apparatus of Klaus Obenauer's German-Latin edition (2011) of the same text. Nutt's edition is needed and suitable for upper-level undergraduate seminars and graduate courses, as well as general use by scholars. Although the disputed question's five articles correspond to the much lengthier text of the Summa theologiae III, qq. 1-19, this question has a special value in its consistent focus on the central themes of personal unity alongside diverse natures. This clarity and intensity of the focus provide a remedy to some current misinterpretations of Thomas that result from isolating his discussion of Christ's esse from its wider context.
