El presente artículo presenta una reflexión sobre el problema de la calidad en la educación para el trabajo y el desarrollo humano desde los contextos latinoamericano y colombiano. De este modo, el documento comprende una revisión sobre el estado del arte de la investigación en la educación técnica, en contraste con la realidad de la oferta en Colombia, lo que demanda interés especial de la investigación educativa en el país, dadas las deficiencias sustanciales y la robusta cobertura que se atiende, sin contar los problemas de control gubernamental, aspectos que han influido en la percepción negativa que se tiene de esta modalidad educativa.
