Films: Whisper it, but this second volume of the GPO Film Unit output is probably the jewel in the collection's crown. Covering the period from 1936, when John Grierson's fledgling documentarians hit their stride, and the playful and varied offerings supervised by Alberto Cavalcanti after 1937, it's a bulging, delicious variety pack in which one can find Len Lye's syncopated, startlingly experimental animation Rainbow Dance and Norman McLaren's springy and unnervingly Freudian cartoon Love on the Wing cheek by jowl with the first ever British dramadocumentary,...
