As an update to a popular and well-regarded series of dictionaries in the field and media and communications, this work seems at first glance to be a welcome updating of the prior edition (for review of 7th ed. see RR 2007/218). Certainly, given the pace of developments in the digital media realm this is exactly the kind of reference book that any scholarly library should perhaps consider as a potential stock update. That said, though, do the contents justify the outlay?
This book certainly offers a plethora of introductory materials, including a preface to the current edition, acknowledgements and a guide to the layout of individual entries. An abbreviation list is also provided, along with an introductory topic guide to 27 particularly chosen areas. This latter tool is especially useful in that it aggregates...
