If we just glance through our glorious past and recollect old memories there were hardly few houses where we could find just one newspaper and the neighbours would come and borrow newspaper to go through the news and quickly return the paper. It was due to meagre resources as everybody could not afford to buy a paper. We must have also observed people sitting in small tea shops and while taking tea one odd person holding newspaper in his hand would read loudly the news headlines and rest of the people clustered around quietly hearing the news.
While listening to the news one could hear mixed comments in most civilized manner in spite of lack of education. That was the time when some of the famous writers and poets would write articles and poetry conveying message of love and brotherhood and would preach to live like brothers and create an atmosphere of friendliness.
Suddenly there was revolution in media and we saw emergence of television and we were lucky to get news about the world. Since it was considered luxury therefore people would sit calmly in hotel or nearby house to watch television. To start with there was only one channel and gradually the number of channels increased now it runs in to hundreds. With this a race of competition and rating resulted in gradual deterioration in programmes that distracted us from main mission of print and electronic media as it became a commercial venture and there was no check by the government.
Instead of creating bonds of love the media divided the society in to different sects, groups, sectarian divides, preached hatred amongst various groups instead highlighting advantages of love and brotherhood failed to create awareness and we became enemies of each other. As a result the nation now stands fully divided.
