Abstract

College students who don't want to get knocked flat by the cost of textbooks should learn about Flat World Knowledge. The online publisher offers students the ability to read texts online for free at its Web site, which also offers full-color printouts and audio books for about a third of the usual cost. In addition, professors can adopt books as they are, or customize texts by pulling from other sources and their own work. Students can use the site to take and share digital notes, pose questions, and order a variety of study aids. Eric Frank and Jeff Shelstad, former employees of textbook publisher Prentice Hall, formed Flat World Knowledge in 2007.
