One company's trash is Avangard Innovative's treasure. Avangard Innovative is one of the largest recyclers of plastic in the US and Latin America. The company diverts almost 550 million tons of plastic waste per year from local landfills -- that's about 6,000 barrels of oil. The plastic is sorted, melted, and recycled back into raw materials, which are then resold to companies around the world for consumer and industrial use. Avangard's recycling service accepts all grades of thermoplastics, Styrofoam, cardboard, aluminum, and metal for processing. It also audits its customers to help reduce their plastic consumption. Avangard's 22 recycling plants are located in Texas, Mexico, China, and Central America.
