Abstract

[...]the author was not pleased at all with the translation of his work. [...]Gishford's translation was never published nor retraced, if it existed at all, yet it was received by the English readers through a review in The Times. According to Vlaar, the preparatory work of the editor played an important role in the publication of this work. [...]this case study opens up reception studies in a way that also stresses the gaps in translation processes and history, the importance of unpublished translations, the non-reception of translations and even the reception of a text that is non-existent for the English public. 1.
