Along with reformation of Design Institute and further development and extent of influence of market economy, establishment of computer-based integrated information system is the direction of development of computer application for Design Institute and the only way to speed up the realization of management information system. The management system of engineering design is the key point of complete information system. The information management system can be used effectively for various stages, such as project establishment, planning, construction and winding up, in order enhancing management efficiency and level for Design Institute. It has the great significant for realizing the all round information management. The level of informatization for Project Design Institute in local is low, such as low level of management systematization, various isolated islands of information and repetitiveness work for engineers and management personnel. These are all because of lack of practical management information system for engineering design so that to establish the practical and advanced management information system is the significant approach to improve management efficiency. By taking the management condition for engineering design of Han gang Design Institute which is one of the typical Institutes in local as an object investigated, the thesis mainly analyses project design process makes a study on development technology and construction solution of management information system based on modem management theory and method, computer network technology, data-base technology and project management theory. The frame of management information system for engineering design has been established and management information system based on B/S operation mode has been developed for Han gang Design Institute finally. The management information system integrates tightly with real operation of Design Institute. It reaches the requirement of design and improves efficiency as well as provides theory basis and valuable experience for informatization for project management of Design Institute. Since the system was in operation, the operation efficiency of Han gang Design Institute has been improved obviously and project design quality has become better and better so that economic benefit and social benefit have been gained by Design Institute
