Indiana Land & Mineral Co is asking Indiana mining regulators to approve the transfer of a permit covering 4,322.9 surface acres in Pike County to Blackhawk Mining LLC's Triad Mining Inc. subsidiary, a state official said Tuesday.
The pending permit transfer is prompting speculation about whether Triad plans to reopen its Log Creek surface mine near Spurgeon in the southern Indiana county. The mine was idled last fall.
Colleen Baughman, permit coordinator for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources' Division of Reclamation office in Jasonville, said in an interview that a decision will be made in about two months.
