SHORTLY AFTER the Texas Department of Agriculture announced rule changes allowing use of a new warfarin based feral hog toxicant, a state district judge in Austin issued a temporary restraining order on the rule change and thus held up use of the product, according to the Austin American-Statesman and other publications.
Sold by the Kaput varmint control product firm, the toxicant contains 0.005 percent of the blood thinning drug warfarin, enough to cause death in hogs.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved the federal pesticide registration of Kaput® Feral Hog Bait Jan. 3 and it is now registered (Registration No. 72500-26) as a "General Use" pesticide.
