HISTORY
The Maple was built in 1977 by a local chain called Suburban Detroit Theatres owned by Richard and Eugene Sloan. Richard always said it was his favorite among their locations. They sold the chain including the Maple to AMC in 1986, and it underwent its first renovation by adding new seats with cup holders and modernizing the concessions stand. AMC later sold it to Landmark, who changed the name to The Maple Art Theatre in 1997.
The current management, Cloud Nine Theater Partners, spearheaded by managing partner Jon Goldstein, acquired the Maple in 2012, changing the name to The Maple Theater. The first renovation involved remodeling the entire building including the lobby and auditoriums-putting in high-backed rockers, luxury seating, a bar, and a coffee shop. In 2015, we renovated again and added a full kitchen and dining area.
As a favorite in the community, the theater has been voted the "Best Place to See an Art Film" as well as "Best Movie Popcorn" throughout the years by several media outlets including Hour Magazine, The Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press, The Metro Times, and The Detroit Jewish News.
