TRUMPETER-BAND LEADER-MUSIC DIRECTOR
Jazz trumpeter, big band leader and former Monterey Jazz Festival music director Bill Berry, who performed with Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson and the Merv Griffin TV band, died of lung cancer Nov. 13 in Los Angeles. He was 72.
He also taught during a musical career that spanned more than 50 years.
