A retired US Army colonel was today arrested. He's the highest- ranking military officer ever arrested on charges of espionage. George Trofimoff is accused of passed classified defense information to the Soviet Union. NPR's Barbara Bradley reports.

Earlier today, George Trofimoff went to the Hilton Hotel, in Tampa, Florida. He thought he was going to meet a contact to receive some money he believed he was owed. Instead, US Attorney Donna Bucella said, he was met by the FBI.
Ms. DONNA BUCELLA (United States Attorney): George Trofimoff, a retired United States Army colonel, was arrested here in Tampa today on charges that he engaged in a 25-year-long conspiracy to sell classified military intelligence information to the Soviet Union.
