TELECOMWORLDWIRE-9 August 2001-GFI launches freeware version of security scanner (C)1994-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http:// www.m2.com GFI, an e-mail and network security software provider, has launched its LANguard Network Scanner as freeware. The LANguard Network Scanner is a security scanner used to audit network security. It is able to make a network security inventory, detect unnecessary shares, open ports and registries that are not secured and check if the operating system is revealing too much information that could be construed as a security risk. Also, the scanner can carry out OS detection, password strength testing and other security functions. A spokesman for GFI has stated that the company has released the scanner as freeware in an attempt to promote network security. ((Comments on this story may be sent to [email protected]))
