Tellabs and Enitel to build high-speed optical network in the North Sea

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-15 December 2000-Tellabs and Enitel to build high-speed optical network in the North Sea (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com Tellabs and Enitel, the Norwegian telecommunications operator, are to build an optical network off the Norwegian coast to provide high-speed offshore telecommunications in the North Sea. The network will create cable links between oil and gas platforms off the coast of Norway and the mainland. The new network will enable Enitel to transmit data, such as maintenance information, at 2.5Gb/s, allowing costly offshore maintenance monitoring to be handled remotely from land-based maintenance centres.
