TELECOMWORLDWIRE-17 April 2001-REVIEW:Easy Web Graphics (C)1994- 2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com Easy Web Graphic aims to help the reader improve their web-pages using various software packages such as PhotoDraw and Frontpage. Being published by Microsoft it does mean that the book often seems biased while telling the reader about which software to use. The ones that are covered in the most depth are by Microsoft, which is to be expected but is a little unfair because there are lots of web graphics and web page building software packages that are on the market that don't get a mention. Primarily this book is written for the absolute beginner and oftentimes seems like it is patronising the reader when it states the obvious - such as if you make a mistake you can always use the 'undo' button. The book's layout makes it very easy to follow and there are a number of ways that the information is made easier to absorb by the author. These methods include 'Tips' boxes which outline any useful hints, 'Note' boxes which... actually do pretty much the same thing. 'Lingo' boxes which explain to the reader all of the necessary jargon. Also there are a wealth of sample screens and example diagrams which help a lot seeing as the book is basically about graphics. Perhaps the best point about this book is the way that it is written. Unlike a whole lot of other 'How To...' books that are published by Microsoft, this one doesn't sound too dull or too much like a grey text book. The author uses an open and friendly style well and it helps the reader to get through the book's 280 pages without too much stress. Sometimes the book get's a little elaborate for no good reason and will take up two pages just for a Chapter's contents section that need only have taken up a half of a page but this is one of the few flaws I found, and I was really trying to find some! CONCLUSION:A well-written and structured book that will give the beginner all they need to know... as long as what they need to know has a Microsoft stamp on it.
