TELECOMWORLDWIRE-February 14, 2007-O2 UK's Be broadband unit unbundles 500th exchange (C)1994-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http:// www.m2.com
Mobile operator O2 UK has revealed that its Be broadband unit has unbundled its 500th exchange, boosting coverage to 33% of households in the UK.
O2 said it is working to unbundle 200 further exchanges by June 2007 and confirmed it is testing new technologies aimed at improving the network and speed. Be Broadband is intending to achieve more than 800 exchanges by the end of this summer, providing it with 50% population coverage in the UK, with the rest of the population to be covered through a wholesale agreement with BT.
The company has also introduced its Annex M service recently for Be Office users, increasing upload speed to a possible 2.5Mb/s, reportedly the fastest upload speed available in the UK. The company, which claims to be the first ISP to adopt ADSL2+ technology, will offer Annex M to home users in the near future.
