As the year 2000 comes to a close, we can look back on the last 365 days and mark three significant events in the world of operating systens-Y2K, W2K and Me. Of course, January 1 marked the culmination of much work and worry about Y2K. On February 17, Microsoft released Windows 2000, the long awaited upgrade to its Windows NT line of operating systems. And on September 14, Microsoft released Me, which is officially the last operating system to be based on the 9x kernel. Let's take a closer look at these events.
The Y2K event
We can now look back on January 1 and breathe a sigh of relief. While it may seem like ancient history at this point, the Y2K bug was as big a deal as there ever was in the world of computing. Just think about it for a moment.
