Taiwan-based Infodisc Technology, which bills itself as the world's largest DVD replicator, made a sudden, powerful move into the North American market by merging with VHS duplication and distribution giant Mediacopy.
Infodisc paid a total of $100 million to Mediacopy, but the deal is being painted as a merger of equals rather than an acquisition. Founder John Roth will remain chairman of the board of Mediacopy, and Infodisc's S.W. Park will become president and CEO. The North American operations will be renamed Mediacopy and Infodisc Company, and will eventually relocate to a Beverly Hills, CA headquarters, with facilities in San Leandro, CA, Louisville, KY, and Mexico. (Infodisc already has operations in Taiwan, Korea, and Germany.)
