Yarmouk University is the first public university in Jordan offering graphic design education. The program began in 1980. Despite the large number of enrolled students in the program, the majority of Yarmouk University graphic design graduates between the years of 2010–2015 were not working as graphic designers; the percentage of unemployed Yarmouk University graphic design graduates was 72.7% of the total number of graduates. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the Yarmouk University graphic design curriculum, marketplace requirements, and graduates’ perceptions regarding the effectiveness of the graphic design curriculum at Yarmouk University in preparing them for employability in the graphic design field. Responses from 385 Yarmouk University graphic design graduates were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The self-made curriculum map developed by the researcher to examine if the Yarmouk University graphic design curriculum aligned with marketplace demands revealed that the Yarmouk University graphic design curriculum does not offer to teach all the marketplace-required skills. Findings also revealed that the majority of Yarmouk University graphic design graduates felt that the Yarmouk University graphic design curriculum did not prepare them for using 12 out of the 13 marketplace-required skills for problem solving in the field. Therefore, it was recommended that Yarmouk University graphic design curriculum needs more clarification in addressing the outcomes of each course and to consider the marketplace-required skills in the design courses.
