Shenzhen's minimum wages will rise by more than 17% from 1 July 2006 to reduce social unrest and ease the city's persistent labour shortage. The minimum wage will rise from RMB 690 to RMB 810 in the inner city and by RMB 120 a month to RMB 700 in the suburbs. Those working outside official hours are entitled to at least RMB 4.66 more per hour.
