ABSTRACT
Academic performance means the level of understanding you attain after going through a particular subject matter for the given time period. It is quite natural for the students to face a certain level of stress during this phase but at times when this stress level crosses the limit it starts affecting their performance in a negative manner. In such a case yoga comes for rescue. It can help students tackle their problems be it physical or psychological head on. There are many studies that support this notion and that too to a great extent. Stress is a common response when an individual is faced with a physical threat or situation that demands the individual to come out of his/her comfort zone. As the hormonal reaction of the body changes the rate of blood pressure fluctuates and that in one way or another decides whether the person should fight or flee. This is something that works as defence mechanism for the individual. Many researchers have come up with a theory that physical or mental exercises help in maintaining the required balance. In the same league there are studies that prove that yoga is one of the most effective mode of exercises in alleviating stress and keeping its ill effects miles away from us. Right from the basic breathing exercises there are many asana sequences and no doubt meditation that helps one deal with the daily life stress and its outcomes. As far as yogic exercises are concerned, not only the results but that course of action itself is equally important.

1.INTRODUCTION
Academic achievement in one way or another describes the level of understanding that any student attains after going through a particular course for an assigned time period. It is always measured in the form of standardized tests that could be in the form of grades or units. It has been noticed in most of the researches done in this field that even a mild level of stress can be traumatic as far as the academic performance of a student is concerned.
