Espiritualidades en Quito: Diálogos en la Diversidad Museo de la Ciudad, Quito, Ecuador
The historic center of Quito in Ecuador, dotted with colonial churches and convents that have drawn the interest of UNESCO officials and international tourists alike, is a landscape that reinforces the city's association with Catholic traditions brought by the Spanish in the sixteenth century. It was thus somewhat refreshing to visit an exhibition at the Museo de la Ciudad (located a short walk from several of the centro's religious landmarks) that gestured toward an expansion of Quito's religious self-identity.
Espiritualidades en Quito: Diálogos en la Diversidad is a joint production of students and professors in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), Museo de la Ciudad staff, and approximately 15 communities that participated in the research and curatorial process (urban practitioners of Andean religious traditions,...
