While WordPerfect and Microsoft boast about their new Windows word processing programs but fail to deliver them (at least to me), an old ghost of a word processor has gotten a fairly complete beta out the door. WordStar for Windows--based in part on WordStar Legacy--offers almost all the features you could ask for in a graphical word processor, all wrapped into an easy-to-use package.
If, like me, your fingers harken back to the good old days before arrow keys--when all right-thinking word processors used Ctrl-E and Ctrl-X to move the cursor up or down, and when Ctrl-Y deleted a line--they'll be well taken care of because WordStar for Windows can be configured to recognize these commands.
Of course, this is the age of icons, so WordStar also offers Word-like buttons for controlling text and paragraph attributes, and for access to its drawing tools. This version doesn't have a modifiable toolbar, though.
WordStar Windows is more of a competitor to Ami Pro 2.0 than Microsoft Word. WordStar is frame-based and feature-heavy, like Ami. Its user interface is quite good, but lacks the rock-solid feel of Microsoft Word.
