Abstract
The Wireless Interconnection Forum (WIF) is composed of local exchange carriers, wireless carriers, vendors, and others. It was formed to open a dialogue on technical and operational issues pertaining to interconnection arrangements as well as new service needs. The WIF participants have identified a number of services they believe would be possible via a Signaling System 7 (SS7) interconnection arrangement. Five services were identified for paging carriers that would offer paging end users a number of options: 1. automatic display of number, 2. call number exclusion, 3. selective call forwarding, 4. call number priority, and 5. call diversion-special announcements. Services that would be beneficial for the cellular end user are: 1. roamer validation, 2. CLASS features from the landline network, 3. distinctive ringing, and 4. call delivery to user location. In early 1992, an SS7 trial will begin in the South Florida area involving BellSouth Mobility, McCaw Cellular, and Southern Bell.
