NOW THAT THE tantare has died down, Marimba Inc. faces the challenge of turning its Java-based Castanet software into a ubiquitous document- and application-distribution system.
Key to Marimba's success will be maintaining its lead over competitors and finding partners that can integrate Marimba technology into existing products and services.
That may be no small challenge, according to industry experts.
"Marimba is basically a middleware company,', said John Rymer,vice president of Santa Clara, Calif.-based Giga Information Group. "Most middleware plays fail."
