IF YOU'RE LOOKING for the most comprehensive illustration or image editing software you can get, Corel Corp.'s Corel Xara isn't for you. But if you're interested in a product that shows artistic vision, Xara is well worth exploring.
As with a traditional drawing package, I used Xards freehand pen, curves, and other shapes to create basic vector artwork. The user interface, consisting of "infobars" that changed with the tool I selected, helped me quickly draw, edit, and combine objects. Yet that's only a small indication of what a user can accomplish.
Foremost, Xara excels at assembling bit-map and vector artwork from virtually every source. For example, I imported Adobe Systems Inc. Illustrator artwork, an Adobe Photoshop file, and a picture from a Kodak Photo-CD, placing each on a different layer.
