To remove oils and other organic compounds, many water treatment schemes rely on activated carbon adsorption, membrane filtration, ion exchange, reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration systems. However, oils and greases can quickly clog the pores and foul the surfaces of these filtration media, compromising system performance.
