This paperback book contains 28 papers given at a conference held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the education of librarians in the Department of Information Studies at the University of Tampere. The topic was chosen as it is a priority research area of the department and there had been no international conferences on the topic in recent years. In the Forward the editors contend that, as we move towards the Information Society, there is an increased need for studies on information seeking and use to support information use and the design of information systems.
Only eight of the papers have abstracts and there is no index, oversights which hinder seeking information within its pages! Space does not allow me to review all the individual contributions but I will attempt to draw attention to those which I think will be of particular interest to readers of this journal.
