The African American Biographical Database contains biographical essays about an extensive collection of African-Americans. With coverage ranging from famous people to everyday citizens, AABD includes activists, politicians, teachers, lawyers, doctors, writers, religious leaders, athletes, scientists, artists, farm workers and labourers. AABD also includes slave narratives. The initial database content consisted of Chadwyck-Healey's Black Biographical Dictionaries 1790-1950, although the company has begun to expand the database content, drawing from a variety of sources, including the Internet. The annual subscription includes bimonthly updates.
