When Lawrence Summers was president of Harvard University, he collected fees for giving financial advice to a hedge fund. Moonlighting from his day job presented no ethical problems for President Summers. Yet in 2001 Summers accused African-American professor Cornel West of neglecting his teaching duties at Harvard by spending too much time on the lecture circuit, engaging in political activities, and recording a rap CD.
