Wesley B. Turner's purpose is not to assess the conduct of British generals during the War of 1812 but rather to compare the leadership of the four major British commanders during the war-Sir George Prevost, Sir Roger Hale Sheaffe, Baron Francis de Rottenburg, and Sir Gordon Drummond-- essentially against the standard of a fifth commander, Sir Isaac Brock, who is widely known while the other generals are largely forgotten.
Turner's work is not a collective biography, nor is it a study of the British officer corps in Canada during the War of 1812. One thing he does do, however, in addition to assessing...
