This book tells the story of the ships, and, especially, merchant sailors who manned the convoys that fought their way to and from Malta during the famous siege during World War II. Unlike so many of the previous books dealing with the fighting in the Mediterranean, this one does not pass over the merchant ships and their crews as mere footnotes. The present work also reflects Woodman's background, as he served in the merchant marine.
Woodman has written over a dozen Hornblower-style "Nathaniel Drinkwater" novels as well as several other fiction and nonfiction works. The reader's attention will be held by his solid prose. The general reader will also be reaching for a dictionary for his use of not only $10 words, but also...
