This collection of thirteen essays is based upon papers presented at a conference on "The Geneva Summit, July 1955," held in 1995. It examines an understudied but highly significant event-the first meeting of heads of state from the United States, the Soviet Union, Britain, and France since the end of the Second World War and the initial attempt at establishing detente in the Cold War.
