WORKSAFE has been involved with the Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) to change a licensing national standard and develop a new training code.
National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work [NOHSC: 1017(2005)] (the Standard)
A national standard sets down the preventative actions to take when trying to prevent workplace deaths, injuries or disease.
All states and territories are encouraged adopt the standard in their occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
The national licensing standard is being developed as the first stage in reforming the national certification (now called licensing) system.
The licensing changes aim to ensure industry has highly qualified, skilled and competent people to perform high risk work.
It will cover the licensing (formerly certificates of competency) of:
- rigging and scaffolding;
- crane and hoist operation;
- pressure equipment operation;
and will include
- forklift trucks; and
- self-erecting tower cranes.
