Abstract [Objectives] To determine the content of total flavonoids in Tetracera asiatica from different production areas in Guangxi and provide a basis for improving the quality standards of crude drug. [Methods] Using 50% ethanol as extractor, NaNO2 - Al(NO3) 3 - NaOH as chromogenic system and rutin as the reference substance, the content of total flavonoids from the crude drug was determined. [Results] A method for determining the content of total flavonoids was established, the content of total flavonoids was 11.35 - 21.35 mg g 1, and the average content was 17.64 mg g 1 [Conclusions] The method had high repeatability and stability, and the method was simple, rapid and sensitive and suitable for quantitative analysis.

1 Introduction
The medicinal materials of Tetracera asiatica, initially recorded in Common Chinese Herbal Medicine Handbook[], are the roots, stems or leaves of Tetracera asiatica ( Lour. ) Hoogland, which have cool nature and bitter taste, with astringent, antidiarrheal, emission-arresting, swelling-reducing and pain-alleviating effects'1 ~4]. Tetracera asiatica is a large vine woody vine, mainly distributed in Guangxi, Guangdong, Yunnan and other tropical and subtropical regions, growing in low-altitude mountain woodland and bush'5]. It is a common herb used by Guangxi Zhuang nationality'2, and according to the actual investigation of folk medicine, its root is mainly used as medicine'6.Its main constituents include flavonoids, tannins, polysaccharides and other organic acids[7]. Currently, there are few studies on Tetracera asiatica, and there is only one article about the chemical constituent extraction of over-ground parts. The Tetracera asiatica section of Guangxi's Zhuang Medicine Quality Standards (Volume II) [] only includes the items of character, identification and extraction, and the quality standafo is relatively simple, which can not effectively control the quality of Tetracera asiatica herbs. In this study, with rutin as reference substance, the total flavonoids were determined, and according to the measurement method of pharmacopoeia specifications, with the Tetracera asiatica root medicine in Guangxi's different productioo areas as object, the content of total flavonoids was determined to provide a basis for improving quality standards.
