Abstract

An analysis of key terms and structures used in the climactic section of Carmen's monologue and a consideration of the frequency and contexts of their previous occurrences provide a revealing commentary on her attitudes. The potential shift in the reader's evaluation of her stance in the light of these earlier usages is also investigated.
