Michael Sheffey, chairman of Century National Bank, has been around banking long enough to see a number of changes, particularly in the local business community.
The former CEO of Security National Bank in Maitland before its sale in 1995 to Huntington Bank - is a firm believer that community banks can be successful right alongside their bigger brothers.
It is that belief that drives Sheffey, who admits his goal is to create a bank that becomes so highly profitable that it becomes an attractive takeover target.
Sheffey talked with Orlando Business Journal recently about the local banking climate, what's ahead in the near future and why mergers and acquisitions are likely to continue in Central Florida and the state.
Was 2003 a good year for your bank?
Overall we were happy with last year. Earnings were slightly better. Balance sheet-wise, we were a little bit better. The place we were most affected was in our government-backed securities loans. Because interest rates were...
