Abstract

Like the rest of the Mexican construction industry, GVA Edifacaciones has had a lean time of late, and although the company is on a much sounder financial footing than some of its debt-laden counterparts, several projects, either in process or negotiation, were stalled during the recession and the company was forced into a holding strategy. Adhering to the theory that what goes down must eventually come back up, GVA Vice President Francisco Javier Gomez Cabrera says he is encouraged by current signs indicating that the construction sector is about to witness a major upswing in its fortunes. In the next few years, he expects GVA to focus its attention on the tourist sector - one of Mexico's fastest growing areas.
